As the deadline for getting coverage in 2014 nears, we're issuing a News Release with the following information to keep people up-to-date on what needs to be completed when.

Consumers signing up for a plan through Covered California should keep in mind these key dates:

  • December 23: Individuals must choose a plan by this date for coverage beginning on January 1.
  • January 6: The insurance company selected by the consumer must receive a payment by this date in order for coverage to start on January 1.
  • March 31: The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has identified this date as the last day to enroll in coverage through a health exchange.
  • April 1: If uninsured on this date, consumers face a penalty of $95 in the first year, or 1% of their income -- whichever is greater.
